What is Rock Hill Shops?

How Rock Hill Shops Started

Rock Hill Shops began with a clear purpose — to promote and showcase the small businesses that make Rock Hill, South Carolina, such a vibrant and unique community. Founded in August of 2023 by Emily Bearse, who was then in her junior year at Westminster Catawba Christian School, the idea started as a hobby and quickly evolved into a growing local business and media platform dedicated to supporting the people behind Rock Hill’s local economy.

Emily noticed that Rock Hill was filled with incredible small businesses, creative entrepreneurs, and exciting community events, but there wasn’t one central place highlighting them all. That realization sparked Rock Hill Shops — a page built to celebrate local businesses, spotlight community events, and connect residents and visitors with the heartbeat of Rock Hill.

What began as simple social media posts sharing favorite shops and hidden gems quickly grew into a trusted source for discovering what’s new, what’s local, and what’s happening in Rock Hill. Today, Rock Hill Shops continues to grow, helping small businesses gain visibility and appreciation throughout the community.

A Platform for Local Businesses

At its heart, Rock Hill Shops is all about uplifting small businesses. Every feature is designed to tell a story — the story of local shop owners, restaurant teams, and entrepreneurs who pour their passion and creativity into what they do. From family-run stores and cozy cafés to pop-up shops and new downtown restaurants, Rock Hill Shops highlights the people, products, and purpose that make each business special.

By promoting these businesses through storytelling, photos, and videos, Rock Hill Shops helps them reach wider audiences, attract new customers, and feel supported by their community. It’s about giving local businesses the spotlight they deserve and reminding everyone how much value they bring to Rock Hill’s charm and identity.

Showcasing Events and Community Life

Beyond businesses, Rock Hill Shops also serves as a go-to guide for local events and activities. Whether it’s a weekend market, live music night, art festival, or seasonal celebration, Rock Hill Shops keeps the community connected and up to date on what’s happening around town.

The platform helps bring awareness to local gatherings that might otherwise go unnoticed — encouraging people to get out, explore, and support their neighbors. Because in Rock Hill, community is built not just through business, but through shared experiences.

Duck Duck SEEK!

In addition to promoting local businesses and events, Rock Hill Shops also created a unique community activity called Duck Duck SEEK! — an interactive, citywide scavenger hunt designed to bring people together while exploring Rock Hill in a fun and creative way.

Duck Duck SEEK! combines the excitement of discovery with the spirit of supporting local. Participants search for hidden rubber ducks placed at various small businesses and landmarks throughout Rock Hill. Each duck found leads to prizes, discounts, or special surprises from participating local shops.

The activity encourages families, friends, and visitors to get out, visit new places, and experience everything Rock Hill has to offer — all while supporting the local businesses that make the game possible. Duck Duck SEEK! perfectly reflects the mission of Rock Hill Shops: connecting the community through fun, creativity, and a love for local life.

Building Community Connections

From the beginning, Emily’s goal wasn’t just to create a promotional page — it was to build relationships between local businesses and the people who live here. Rock Hill Shops is built on connection, storytelling, and community pride. Each post serves as a bridge between the dreamers who start local businesses and the customers who help those dreams thrive.

When you shop local, attend an event, or share a Rock Hill Shops post, you’re helping strengthen the local economy and investing directly in the future of your community. That’s the spirit Rock Hill Shops celebrates every day.

Why It Matters

In a world where big-box stores and online shopping often dominate, Rock Hill Shops reminds us of the importance of shopping small and supporting local. Every purchase at a local business keeps more money within the community, fosters creativity, and sustains the independent spirit that makes Rock Hill so special.
